Sink Installation Process
Still want to do it yourself? Installing a new sink isn’t just a quick project of replacing the sink. There’s more involved.
- Purchase a new sink: regardless of what sink style you choose, it’s best to get one that’s the same size as your old one or a bit larger. If you get a sink smaller than your current sink, you’ll end up with gaps around the edges.
- Remove the old sink: this step requires shutting off the hot and cold water in your home. If it’s a kitchen sink with a garbage disposal, you’ll need to shut off the power for it as well. Other steps include, disconnecting the P-trap and dishwasher if applicable. Some sinks have metal clips on the underside, connecting them to the counter. These will have to be loosened to remove the sink.
- Install the new sink: clips will need to be attached to the underside of your new sink so that it connects to the counter. Caulk or plumbers’ putty will need to be applied around the edges of the sink to provide a good seal. Then, you’ll need to reconnect your accessories and water supply lines.
