Why You Need a Plumber to Install Your New Sink
Updating your kitchen or bathroom allows you to create a space that completely suits your style. Whether you’re performing a full-scale remodel or simply want to incorporate a few upgrades, a new sink can make all of the difference, changing any space dramatically. And enlisting the help of a licensed plumber is always the way to go when it comes to installing new plumbing fixtures and here’s why.
Licensed plumbing contractors go through extensive training. They’re knowledgeable about various plumbing systems from water lines and sewers to gas lines and appliances. They’ll ensure your plumbing fixture is installed correctly without damaging any other component in your home.
Licensed plumbing companies are required to have liability insurance. If a mistake is made or damage does result, this insurance will cover most of the expenses. This is important, because homeowner’s insurance generally doesn’t cover damages performed by an unlicensed plumber.
When you work with a licensed plumbing company, like Clog Pro, we’ll treat you more than just a customer. We’ll provide our services and also offer you maintenance tips to help prevent plumbing issues in the future.
Sink Installation Process
Still want to do it yourself? Installing a new sink isn’t just a quick project of replacing the sink. There’s more involved.
- Purchase a new sink: regardless of what sink style you choose, it’s best to get one that’s the same size as your old one or a bit larger. If you get a sink smaller than your current sink, you’ll end up with gaps around the edges.
- Remove the old sink: this step requires shutting off the hot and cold water in your home. If it’s a kitchen sink with a garbage disposal, you’ll need to shut off the power for it as well. Other steps include, disconnecting the P-trap and dishwasher if applicable. Some sinks have metal clips on the underside, connecting them to the counter. These will have to be loosened to remove the sink.
- Install the new sink: clips will need to be attached to the underside of your new sink so that it connects to the counter. Caulk or plumbers’ putty will need to be applied around the edges of the sink to provide a good seal. Then, you’ll need to reconnect your accessories and water supply lines.
